Since the owner was concerned about indoor air quality (IAQ) for the children, the HVAC system was based on providing ASHRAE recommended best practice IAQ. PNA utilized constant volume ASHRAE 90.1 complaint multi-zone rooftop units. The building was broken down into a normal north/south unit configuration and supplied by individual single zone control ductwork. The system was not DDC based, and this allowed the controlled to be easy and cost effective. The unit controller handles inputs from the room zone thermostat and modulates the unit zone dampers accordingly. The systems are started and stop with simple programmable time clocks to save energy during unoccupied periods.
